We’re Going Out of Cone-Trol in Lexington, Kentucky

I’ve been to Kentucky before but my blog has never been. Last time I went, I was in grade school visiting family. I couldn’t even tell you where I went or what I did. I just remember lots of land between each residential area.

It’s safe to say, I underestimated Kentucky… but more so the suburbs of the actual hip places.

Let's talk Lexington.

It’s a college town. There’s lots of restaurants, visitor centers, and sweet tooth outings. But on top of that, we hit one of the best gluten free cafes in the area. I know, I probably lost you at “gluten free,” but it was SO good. I’ll go in depth a bit later.

Grab your bourbon, and let’s chat.

Sorella Gelateria

Located in a corner in town, the owner of this shop creates the most random ice cream flavors every day. It’s safe to say that you won’t be able to try what you had yesterday. Props to her for the creativity though, because I wouldn’t be able to sustain a new 5-6 assortment of flavors each day. She also has a mini menu of coffee items, but the gelato IS IT! I also just recently learned the passion needed for making gelato in the movie: Love and Gelato on Netflix. Cute movie too! (This is not an ad, just wanted to share).

Ruth Hunt Candy

Funny enough, Ruth Hunt Candy was celebrating 100 years of opening. We had a local recommend this spot because it’s essentially sugar sweets. Prepare your tummy, because it’s the sweetest candy I’ve ever had. The bourban balls were a slice of heaven too!

Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream on Clays Mill

There are lots of flavors to choose from and merchandise to sell. I think the highlight of this dessert spot was being able to create your own ice cream flight. It was limited to four options, but exciting that you could have multiple in one sitting. Choose wisely, so your tummy doesn’t feel like it’s all over the place afterwards.

Miracles Bakery & Cafe

My son Connor was always sick. He got everything you can imagine. We couldn’t understand why he had so many fevers, colds, stomach bugs etc. Then he began to have gastrointestinal distress. Severe knife stabbing pains often accompanied with diarrhea. Eventually, he had diarrhea everyday.

At seven and eight he was afraid to go anywhere because he knew he most likely would have stomach trouble while out. Once diagnosed with an over the top Gluten Allergy, life changed. Within a week of the diagnosis he was symptom free. Granted our lifestyles drastically changed.

…continued.

Miracles Bakery & Cafe

Essentially, this bakery is all gluten free. They cook/ bake homemade everything. It’s quite fascinating how the bakery’s story goes and very inspiring.

One of our friend’s on the trip is gluten free, so this was quite the treat to visit. So delicious!

Nate’s Coffee Hideaway

Went into this little nook after first discovering the outside Grove portion by the Square and it was so cutie! This place is in conjunction with a restaurant next door and an outdoor brunch spot with lots of nature vibes to it. It was a cute hideaway. See what I did there?

I think Lexington really showed us with all the dessert spots in the area. We went from coffee shops to ice cream / gelato to just becoming the biggest sweet tooth on the planet; or even more so than I already am. Each had their own story and very welcoming employees.

It was a good time! ‘Til next time!
