Grab the Bourbon, It’s Time to Gossip

Life has a funny way of expressing itself, especially when you add flavor. Bourbon is the IT item in Kentucky. There are actually three things everyone will tell you when they hear Kentucky: bourbon, horse racing, and college basketball. If you didn’t know this, now you do!

Since the 1960's, it is known as the Bluegrass State. The horse industry has been supported by the state's green grass species in their pastures for decades.

I’m here to give you the Pinterest-like restaurants, the locations where you can simply go bourbon tasting, and enjoy pretty much through all kinds of price points. These are a few of my favorite things! *Insert musical note*

The Grove

This is more of an outdoorsy spot to enjoy the sunshine and breeze of the open air. The outing as a whole is connected to two other restaurants that I talk about here to enjoy every kind of atmosphere.

I mostly wanted to come by because you could see it from my hotel and I wanted the photos that came with the experience, of course. Definitely a cute brunch spot to hit up while you’re in town. Their items are made in a food truck concept- very interested but limited in options as well.

CoreLife Eatery

We had to go to gluten-free spots mostly because of one of our friends. It actually reminded me of a healthier version of Chipotle, to add the comparison. The ceilings were super high and there were lots of orangey/ green tones added to the restaurant. Quite the look!

They also had a fun selection of drinks. Like a more expanded version of Panera. And you could mix and match the flavors to how you wanted!!

Barrel House Distilling Co

The process to create bourbon is pretty intense. The whiskey tree includes types such as Scotch single malt, rye, Canadian, Irish single pot still, and many others. Bourbon is just one of the branches. It uses about 70-80% corn, plus wheat or rye and some barley. And if you want to read more about bourbon, this site does into way more depth than my basic knowledge of touring distilleries.

Did I mention the bourbon tastings are free?? Please eat something before though... Stay safe!

I’ve learned– All bourbons are whiskeys but not all whiskeys are bourbons.

Buffalo Trace

#AnothaOne FREE tasting tour!! It was actually free for the tasting, but you had to be there early for the tour part, which we didn’t end up doing. We still got the experience, if you asked me!

By honoring tradition and embracing change, Buffalo Trace Distillery has earned its place of leadership among the legendary spirits makers of the world since 1771.

Palmers Fresh Grill

I feel like you always need to visit a fancy restaurant you get to dress up at. We had lunch at Palmers and it was actually pretty affordable for quality items. The plates were pretty large, so I had leftovers for sure.

Lockbox

It was walking distance from our hotel, so we definitely wanted to make a pit stop. We came in for breakfast before leaving and had a bloody mary with eggs, bacon and a few leaves. The atmosphere felt professional but classy. It is a very modern space!

So you can say food was being enjoyed to a whole other level. I wanted to take a siesta (Spanish for nap) after every meal. Well worth it and lots of options to choose from. Whether you’re feeling a bit bougie by the water or just want a quick bite or a free bourbon tasting, this is for you!
