A Day in the Life of an Ohio Local

Quick weekend in Ohio and we totally winged it. The main purpose of the trip was my cousin’s baby shower but we had some spare time to explore!

My aunt and I drove about 6 hours from our little peanut city to Columbus, Ohio. The first thing I did when I got to the restaurant we were having dinner at, was hug my momma and snap a quick pic. Look how pretty she is!

Dinner With the Fam

We met up with the rest of the crew at The Elevator. The vibe was so cute! When you walk in, there’s a long bar to your right with seating area on the left. In the next room there were more seating areas with a long table (basically a few of tables attached) perfect for our little big family!

The Elevator seemed to specialize in seafood, so I got the mahi mahi (left) and my aunt got the salmon (right). SO YUM! And then of course, couldn’t leave without some dessert.

Side note: whenever I travel, I try to look for the “staples” to eat, do, explore at… This restaurant, well location exactly, is known for Buckeye, which my cousin explained it as a nut type thing.

So my dessert was called Buckeye Brownie and it was warm chocolate brownie topped with Johnson’s Peanut Butter Buckeye Blitz Ice Cream, whipped cream and our Nut Brown Ale chocolate sauce. 10/10 recommend if you’re a peanut butter lover!!!

Cute Little Town

We drove around the area and found this cute little town called German Village. It definitely reminded me of Europe because of all the house detailing, the bricked areas/bumpy roads and all the nature. I absolutely love anything nature!

It’s a Boy!

It was finally time for the baby shower! My aunt did an amazing job in planning and preparing for everything. The decor had so much detail, and it was all simple yet classy. The games were also so trendy and the desserts were mouth watering.

Here’s a sneak peek of what the decor looked like:

Downtown Columbus

A strip of restaurants, beautiful chilly but sun out weather and food- that’s the best! We ate mexican type food at Bakersfield– tacos, taquitos, chips and guac, chili and just all the good stuff.

This is what the restaurant looked like in and out:

Side note: FUNNY STORY! So I didn’t notice both bathrooms could be used by both humans until after my incident. I thought the female was to the left and the male to the right. So I go into the female AND THERE WAS A MALE IN THERE. Que pena (Spanish translation for ‘how embarrassing’). I literally ran to my table to give myself a few seconds to laugh and breath. And then went back to take this pic so you knew what I would reference to with my funny story!

Brief intermission before my AWE moment:

THIS PLACE DOESN’T SERVE ANY DESSERTS! WHAT?!

But the food looked aesthetically pleasing.

Here’s my momma posing for fun, next to these flower-like umbrellas.

So of course, I can’t go to a restaurant and not have at least a piece of chocolate. I looked for the first sweet place and came across this cutie ice cream shop- Jeni’s Ice Cream

Meanwhile, I got the “Melissa, it’s cold, why are you getting ice cream!?”

I love ice cream. Periodt.

I went in, bought my Gooey Butter Cake ice cream and all my aunts go “I’ll try some”. AND THEN I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE FOR THEM. Moral of the story: women never say no to sweets.

Unless you’re that woman.

Last stop before our other 6 hour drive and dropping off my fam at the airport:

Franklin Conservatory Park

It was SO pretty! Ohio still has fall leaves, unlike Naperville’s naked trees because of the snow. I had such a nice time walking around and taking pics with the scenery. I absolutely LOVE fall!

24 hours in Ohio wasn’t bad at all. We made the best of it, got to spend time with family and of course, just WINGING IT!

AND it was a much needed girls trip, with a few missing. I hope we get to do another girls trip soon! But I also hope you enjoy little cute Ohio when you visit.
