A Taste of the Music City

Nashville has to be one of the cities most visited in the United States. It’s always so lively and the people are so kind. No wonder it’s called the Music City! There’s always something to do and somewhere to eat. What about the desserts though? And maybe some tastings? Have you experienced those? Well you’re about to… virtually!

Our trip was relatively short, only three days to be exact but we made the best out of what we had. It was my sister, two friends and I that took this journey and we definitely had a blast, especially because we only paid $119 for our flight with American (from Thursday night to Tuesday morning)!

Welcome to the Music City!

Jack Daniel’s Distillery

We had to drive a bit from Nashville, but this is where the rental car comes in handy. Tip: if you’re traveling with someone who works in the university school system, you get a discount when you rent a car. Jack Daniel’s Distillery was created by Jasper Newton Daniels and is located in Lynchburg, Tennessee . It’s the oldest distillery in the United States, established in 1866. We purchased tickets to take the Flight of Jack tour and then do some whiskey tasting… yum! (This is where my love for whiskey started).

The staff introduced the process of making the Tennessee Whiskey. There are three types of grain- 80% of corn, 8% of rye and 12% of malted barley. After the water and grain are mashed, it’s cooled and pumped into fermenting, which will be mixed and fermented for 6 days. The alcohol condenses into liquid form and the whiskey becomes a full 140 proof. The mellow vats distinguishes this whiskey as “Tennessee Whiskey”.

After the tasting, we took photos outside and wandered around the premises for a bit. It was such a cute area and the experience was absolutely worth it.

Belle Meade Plantation

We visited Belle Meade Plantation, which is a historical site educating on the significance of the American culture. It preserved sites from the Civil War days when slaves were locked in to work.

The Plantation also has a winery, which includes some award winning wines. Their hospitality and history makes it a worthwhile location to visit.

Tennessee Brew Works

Where “finely tuned craft beer” is created, this beer was pretty good. We got the flight of beer and shared it like the last supper. Each one had a unique taste and it was nice to experience some Tennessee beer.

The food was also a plus! The pictures didn’t do justice.

Onto some local desserts…

Five Daughters Bakery

MUST HAVE CRONUTS! A mixed croissant and a donut come together and make your tummy happy. Their #1 best-selling is the maple glaze and it was SO yummy! We also bought some milk, because it can get too sweet. And the location is so cute but not enough seating. So definitely on-the-go!

GooGoo Cluster

This Southern treat is one of a kind. It’s been a southern tradition since 1912 and continues to be a famous chocolate cluster! It’s such a cute local chocolate shop to grab some treats for your trip.

And some others…

Night Farmer’s Market

We visited a small farmer’s market but were looking for something in particular. Can you guess what it is?

Have you ever had King of Pops?

A Tennessee staple, but native to Atlanta! So many flavors to choose from and I got a fruity pop. With the heat, the pop was very necessary and it hit the little dessert compartment in my tummy that I wanted.

Nashville has so much to offer, especially all the tastings and desserts. I love visiting local shops because it gives a real feel for the city and what it has to offer.

I hope you enjoy a small portion of Nashville, Tennessee through this post. I would love to hear where you’ll visit when you travel here!

XOXO, Mel
