Going Abroad With Communications and Media In Spain
Florida International University (FIU) offers a variety of enriching study abroad programs, and one of the standout opportunities this summer is the Communications + Media in Spain program. Designed for students interested in branding, media, and international collaboration, this six-week experience partners with local agencies and destinations across Spain to give students hands-on opportunities to explore global perspectives and develop their creative voice. Depending on the professor, students typically enroll in two to three courses throughout the program.
To bring this experience to life, I connected with several friends who participated, Laura Guerra, Adrian Gonzalez-Camps, Erica Riera, and Carolina Pulgarin, who shared personal stories about their favorite cities, daily routines, and the importance of maintaining an open mind while navigating new cultures.

Students experience global perspectives while studying abroad
These questions below were the focus of the interview:
- Before going out, what would your process be in getting ready?
- Are you the type to go out and explore alone or with friends? Why?
- Where would you recommend going to *insert city you studied at*?
Through their reflections, it became clear that the program offers much more than just academic credit—it provides a true immersion into Spanish culture, media, and lifestyle. From navigating public relations in a new language to observing how different regions approach branding and design, each student walked away with real-world insight and new perspectives. Whether it was capturing content in bustling plazas, learning storytelling techniques from local creatives, or simply enjoying late-night café conversations, every moment contributed to their personal and professional growth.
