A Few Ways to Give Back in Miami

Were you ever given the opportunity to volunteer your time? To help those in need?

Where I come from, my family taught us to always have a kind heart. I was born and raised in Miami, a very diverse and cultured city in South Florida. I always say that Miami is basically its own country because there are so many people from all over the world either residing or touring. And the opportunity for growth in Miami is endless. But if you want to know more about the way I was raised, I did a post here!

Why give back?

I believe when you have the heart or learn to be kind in your life, you know your financial stability is at a good standpoint. Those who provide wisdom, care and knowledge to others allow them to succeed as such and those are the kind of people I like to surround myself with.

I’ve listed a few of my favorite organizations I’ve had the chance to serve while living in Miami. Ready?

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Dedicated to millions of children, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) helps families across North America by raising funds and awareness. I worked personally with this organization throughout my undergraduate career. We have created many miracles through the years and continue to do so!

When involved with sick children and their families, there’s a certain protocol to follow for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which acknowledges the confidentiality of all patients. That’s why I can’t post photos with the patients unless given the honor to do so.

But here’s a glimpse of Roarthon at Florida International University, where we stand together as a community to bring smiles to children and their families from CMNH.

Chamber South

An organization that contributes to helping others, like Chamber South, is amazing. The focus of constantly helping, organizing events and connecting the community with each other allows for more opportunity and knowledge on what’s happening next. Chamber South is a family oriented organization and I absolutely LOVE that.

They even offer a young professionals group! And guess who does too? Ronald McDonald House!

Ronald McDonald House

Founded in 1974, one of this non-profit organization’s goal is to help children and families be provided with a stay during their medical treatments. Our local house is in the Downtown area and always ready for volunteers. We showed some love by painting the stairwells and making them look fresh!

There’s SO many ways you can choose to give back and we felt painting would be a fun project with our group!

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts

Located in the heart of Downtown Miami, this organization is a HUGE non-profit organization. I had the pleasure of interning not once, but TWICE with them. It was the most fun internships I’ve had so far!!

They offer so many resources to students, volunteers and staff for plays, musicals, operas, and everything in between. Can you believe it’s the biggest performing arts center in Miami, Florida??? AND it has the second largest stage in the country!

Miami has WAY more organizations you can choose from, but these are only a few I’ve worked with on my free time.

Other organizations to serve in Miami:

  • Camilla’s House Village
  • Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • United Way
  • Big Brothers, Big Sisters
  • Autism Speaks

I would love to hear about your experience. Why do you give back? What’s one of your favorite organizations to serve?
