The Real New Orleans

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live in such a lively city? All the historical sites and beautiful landscapes? Maybe New Orleans could be your next move!

My group and I worked out our plan for a couple of months specifically for post-Mardi Gras. We wanted to go when it wasn’t as crazy but still in the spirit of the celebration.

The Home of the Dead

One of the most famous cemeteries in New Orleans because of Vampire Diaries and The Originals (two shows on Netflix that correlate and were based from New Orleans)- the Lafayette Cemetery. It wasn’t too bad. The cemeteries here are unique because they’re ALL above ground and with no coffins. So back then, they would place each body per family in their own tomb. They thought it was best above ground because it was easier to place rather than dig up a hole and do the process underground.

There was this one cemetery, the St. Louis Cemetery, in which you can only enter if you have a tour or have a loved one buried. So you can imagine how many people want to enter if security is top notch. Some famous actors have built their tomb just to have it in the most secure cemetery. Crazy!

Tummy Necessities

Donut tell me sweets don’t make you happy… We can’t be friends (just kidding). Welcome to District Donuts! I got the funfetti and it was my favorite, but we shared other flavors too!

We visited the Bayou Beer Garden as well, because it correlated to the Vampire Diaries and the Originals (a vampire series on Netflix). The vibe was really nice in the garden and everyone was so homie. Definitely one of my favorite bars outside of the French Quarter or Bourbon Street.

Historical Sites

The Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery was neat. People believe that the War of 1812 was unnecessary between Britain and the United States… but the war wasn’t over even when the treaty was signed in 1814. They tour you through the most popular places the battle marked and what weapons they used.

Exploring its Beauties

New Orleans is beautiful in all aspects; the colorful houses, the botanical flowers in city park, sites, and people. So much to see in such little time but very worth it!

Until next time, New Orleans… I can’t wait!
