The Sweet Life

Have you heard of the Museum of Ice Cream? It’s crazy to think that only three states in the whole nation have had the opportunity to welcome such a place. From what I know, there are four places that this museum has been represented at- Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Manhattan.

It started in Manhattan, New York with interactive candy and ice cream art. The founder wanted to give life to her childhood dream and some creative directors believed in her to do just that. The Museum of Ice Cream was created under the impression that ice cream is the symbol of happiness.

It was brought to the Faena Hotel in Miami Beach, making its debut in 2017. Its doors opened for everyone of all ages and no one could ever imagine that something like this was truly real. The goal was for it to stay in Miami for one month but it was SO popular that it stayed for a total of three months.

Each room had a different theme, decor and giveaways or samples. It truly felt like you were a little kid in a free candy shop… so surreal.

These balloons were the first attraction before entering the museum itself.

The Museum of Ice Cream definitely offered joy to all ages and you’ll see why!

We entered the first real room where they gave little samples of ice cream. The first impression of the Museum was already a dream.

Bunns Shake was a little ice cream shack. Only a few groups were allowed at once and the ice cream was a good start to the rest of the tour.

We then walked to an ice cream fanned room. Here’s a group picture!

The next room was the monkey room! The staff gave us little banana-covered chocolate with sprinkles to have and it was YUMMY! I definitely went for thirds because I didn’t know when I would have them again… #foodiesunite. We also got to swing by the banana tree for some fun!

We walked around to the next few rooms. The majority of the decor was pink and very bright. There was a small candy station, an area to feel soft clay, and a room with a bunch of shapes to play around with. It felt like we were truly using our five senses!

Some back story on this… We were one of the first groups that took part in this popsicle journey because we went during the inaugural month of its installation in Miami. As time passed, visitors would pull on the popsicles and it would have patches of no popsicles. It got to a point that it didn’t look so attractive, so they pasted the popsicles on the wall instead. It was a funny transition but the Museum acted fast and accomplished it. Props to them!

The last room was the Sprinkle Pool… Ask me if I went in. This is how far I got- (photo shown to the right).

We were in a rush the day we visited because we had a basketball game right after. But we didn’t think of how much time we needed to wander around. ALSO, funny enough, the Sprinkle Pool was towards the end of our tour. As time passed, like the popsicles, the Sprinkle Pool had to be switched to the beginning of the tour because people would come out with sprinkles and dirty the streets with the plastic little things. It looked like an outdoor version once you walked on the streets.

Some recommendations for limited edition installations:

  • I would go with enough time to wander around so you’re not in a rush because you’d be able to give enough time to each room and interactive activities.
  • Encourage yourself to visit installations like these. I think of them as “limited edition” because they’re only here for some time and why not have some curiosity and experience them!

You should always explore the unknown and try to visit as much as possible. I think it’s fun to make those memories with family and friends. If you need a buddy, I’d love to go with you! Let’s collab!

XOXO, Mel
